Our Central Prayer Meetings: The Boiler Room of CCLB
The great nineteenth century preacher, Charles Spurgeon, began his ministry in London as a
19-year-old. His church in New Park Street attracted crowds in their thousands and to get a
seat people would arrive half an hour before church began – imagine! When asked by
visitors wanting to know to know the ‘secret of his success’ he took them down to the
churches ‘boiler room’.
In chilly London, the ‘boiler room’ was in the basement, and they were hot, dirty, dusty
places full of cobwebs. But still, they provided the power to the building. Visitors were
amazed to find that his boiler room was the place where people regularly met to pray for
him and the church’s ministry. For Spurgeon, this was powerhouse for the church’s work.
Our quarterly Central Prayer meetings are the Boiler Room of CCLB.
Our next meeting is on Wednesday 19th August in Greg’s home at 9.30 in the
morning and 7.30 in the evening. We meet for 90 minutes. There is always coffee,
tea, light refreshments, lots of prayer points, lots of time for prayer, plus rich
fellowship together. Parking is available in the upper car park.
