A Truth to Count On

I’m getting tired of American movies. After you’ve watched a few hundred, they start to become ‘join-the-dots’ predictable.
There are some things you can always count on.
Like, have you ever noticed how dogs always know the villain and always bark at them? And that all bombs are fitted with large
red digital timer so you know exactly when they're going to go off, so you can disarm them with only a few seconds to go?
And if your building is being overrun by terrorists then hide in the ventilation system, because no one ever thinks of looking there
– AND – it is always very clean – AND – you can easily get wherever you want in the building.
Then there are others. All single women own a cat. All Germans speak perfect English but with German accents. All grocery
bags contain at least one stick of French bread. The list goes on.

But then there are some things you can really ‘count’ on - like this trustworthy saying, ‘Jesus Christ came into the world to save
sinners’ (1 Timothy 1:15). Jesus didn’t come to found a Christian civilization - or start a Gothic building program - or to bring in the
‘golden-rule’ – or give me another ladder to climb.
He came into the world to save sinners. Those who have fallen short. Those who are out of step with God. There is no person
beyond God’s grace.

It is a truth we never outgrow. This is a truth to count on.
